A 50-year-old man was taken into custody after police responded to reports of a person carrying weapons near South Franklin and West Second streets in Oconomowoc early Friday, Sept. 25, 2026. Police said an airsoft gun was initially reported, and investigators later determined a .22-caliber rifle had also been used. Multiple rounds were fired in the area, according to police. Neighbors told WISN they heard at least 10 shots, and security video appeared to capture gunfire. Officers were dispatched at about 1:22 a.m. A search warrant on West Third Street led police to a firearm, the department said. The man could face three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety; police did not identify him or say whether charges had been filed. No one was injured, and police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators are reviewing video and other evidence, building a timeline and speaking with witnesses. Resident Arlene Verges said the scene was unusual for the neighborhood. She recalled seeing police cars block the street and a K-9 unit arrive, which made her realize the situation was serious.
