MILWAUKEE — Hundreds of Milwaukee Bucks fans donated blood at Fiserv Forum on Sunday, Sept. 27, during the second annual Back the Bucks blood drive, organized by Versiti in partnership with the team. Each donation can help save up to three lives. Versiti said blood collected at the drive will remain in the area and help supply Milwaukee hospitals for patients needing emergency transfusions or continuing treatment. “Why not come out and support the community and support our team, the Milwaukee Bucks,” one donor said. A Versiti representative said the regional blood supply is currently steady, but maintaining it depends on donors showing up every day. That balance can change quickly as hospitals continue to rely on donations. Quiana Scott, a Versiti employee who donated on her day off, said donors may never know who receives the blood or blood products they provide. “I feel like it’s a very life-changing experience,” she said. Organizers said the holiday season can be a particularly difficult period for donations, as travel and busy schedules keep some regular donors away. Community drives and individual donations throughout the year help Versiti meet local hospitals’ needs.
