Milwaukee shooting outside Champion’s Pub sends 54-year-old to hospital

A 54-year-old was wounded by gunfire near Champion’s Pub on the east side early Sunday and is expected to survive. Police had not said whether the shooting was targeted, and investigators were seeking information from the public.

A 54-year-old was taken to a hospital after a shooting near Champion’s Pub on Milwaukee’s east side shortly before closing time early Sunday, witnesses said. The victim is expected to survive, according to reporting updated Oct. 4. The shooting was reported at about 1:15 a.m. near North Bartlett and East Thomas avenues, a few blocks from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Cambridge Commons residence hall. Witness Nicole Adams said she heard tires, a single gunshot, a car door close and a vehicle speed away. Someone nearby then saw the person on the ground, she said, and another person quickly called 911. As of Sunday afternoon, police had not responded to questions about whether the shooting was targeted or random. Anyone with information can call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360.
