Teen dies after shooting at Racine’s Lockwood Park; another teenager arrested

A 17-year-old boy died after being shot during an altercation at Lockwood Park early Sunday, Racine police said. A 16-year-old who was also shot was arrested and is expected to survive.

A 17-year-old boy died after a shooting at Lockwood Park in Racine early Sunday, Oct. 4, and a 16-year-old who was wounded was arrested, police said. The shooting happened shortly before 1:15 a.m. during an altercation among a large crowd, according to police. First responders took the 17-year-old to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his back, where he later died. The 16-year-old was being treated for a gunshot wound to the torso and was expected to survive. Police Sgt. Alicia Mitchell said the violence had affected many people and offered condolences to those grieving. Investigators are asking witnesses and anyone with information to call the Racine Police Department Investigations Unit at 262-635-7756.
