Wrong-way SUV prompts tractor-and-wagon crash on Grant County road
A 32-year-old Cuba City man driving a tractor with two hay wagons crashed down an embankment after swerving to avoid an SUV that was reportedly in the wrong lane on Clay Hollow Road in the town of Paris, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said. The man was driving a John Deere 4430 west and hauling flatbed wagons loaded with round hay bales when he came around a corner and encountered a small- to midsize SUV approaching in the opposite lane, according to the sheriff’s office. He steered right to avoid a collision. The tractor slid down the embankment, and the first wagon jackknifed at a right angle. The tractor stopped against a tree. The tractor driver was not injured. The SUV continued east on Clay Hollow Road without stopping, the sheriff’s office said. The driver described the SUV as a sandy-colored, 2010-to-2015 Hyundai or Honda midsize vehicle. The person driving it was described as 25 to 40 years old and wearing a floppy hat. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the vehicle or driver to contact the agency. The Dickeyville Fire Department assisted with traffic control while Clay Hollow Road was closed between Highway 151 and Morgan Road. The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
