A 14-year-old Clay High School student was arrested after investigators determined the student had written a threat on a school bathroom wall predicting a shooting in November, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday, Oct. 13. The student initially brought the threat to school administrators, who passed the information to the school’s resource officer. The officer investigated with Clay County District Schools and identified the student who reported the threat as the person who wrote it, the sheriff’s office said. The student was charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill, cause bodily injury, carry out a mass shooting or commit an act of terrorism. Authorities transported the student to the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Duval County detention center. The student also faces school discipline under the district’s Student Code of Conduct. The sheriff’s office urged residents to report school threats or suspicious activity through the FortifyFL or SaferWatch apps, or by calling the agency at 904-264-6512.
