Atlanta Dream seek a Finals-sized home court as arena dates fill up

The Dream have reached their first WNBA Finals since 2013, but no Atlanta venue had been announced for the team’s scheduled home games. Gateway Center Arena seats about 3,500, while State Farm Arena is booked on all three dates.

Atlanta Dream seek a Finals-sized home court as arena dates fill up
ATLANTA — The Atlanta Dream are headed to the WNBA Finals, but their home-court plans remain unsettled less than a week before the series begins. As of Sunday night, the team and league had not announced where Atlanta would host its scheduled home games on Oct. 22, 24 and 29. The Dream’s regular home, Gateway Center Arena, holds about 3,500 people—capacity the team considers too small for the Finals. State Farm Arena, the city’s larger venue, is unavailable on those dates: a Sombr concert is scheduled for Oct. 22, and the Atlanta Hawks have games there on Oct. 24 and 29. The Dream advanced Friday with an 85-83 win over the New York Liberty, completing a three-game sweep. The fourth-seeded team has not lost in the postseason and is making its first Finals appearance since 2013. The series against the Golden State Valkyries opens Saturday, Oct. 17, at Chase Center in San Francisco. Atlanta has never won a WNBA championship.
