The Falcons led by eight points late in regulation before Baltimore forced overtime and scored the winning touchdown. Atlanta’s rally ended with an interception after quarterback Michael Penix Jr. left with a rib injury.
ATLANTA — The Falcons let a late lead slip away Sunday night, falling 30-23 to the Baltimore Ravens in overtime at Mercedes-Benz Stadium after quarterback Michael Penix Jr. exited with a rib injury.
Atlanta held a 23-15 advantage with about 2½ minutes remaining in regulation after kicker Nick Folk made a field goal. Baltimore answered with a touchdown, then converted a two-point try to tie the game and send it to overtime.
The Ravens took the lead in overtime with a touchdown drive. Penix’s replacement, Tua Tagovailoa, threw an interception on Atlanta’s second play of its possession. Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton, a Georgia native, made the pick to end the game.
Penix was listed as being sidelined because of the rib injury. Before leaving, he had completed 19 of 24 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns, according to game statistics.
The defeat dropped Atlanta to 2-3, while Baltimore improved to 4-1. The Falcons’ late collapse came on a night that included the team’s Ring of Honor festivities at the stadium.
