Trash thrown as Georgia players leave field after 20-17 win at Alabama

Trash thrown as Georgia players leave field after 20-17 win at Alabama
Georgia beat Alabama 20-17 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night, earning its first victory over the Crimson Tide on their home field since 2007. The win came with an ugly scene after the final whistle: bottles, cans and other trash were thrown onto the field as players left, according to video from the game. Georgia coaches instructed their players to put their helmets back on while walking off the field. No injuries were reported in the account of the incident. The game also ended amid debate over a late call. Officials did not penalize what appeared to be pass interference in the end zone; a flag could have moved Alabama into position to attempt a tying field goal. Georgia coach Kirby Smart called it a physical, back-and-forth game and said critical calls and situations are part of such contests. “You could go back and look at hundreds of them,” he said after the game. The victory marked a significant road result for Georgia against one of its fiercest SEC rivals. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host Auburn next Saturday in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
