Georgia takes top spot in AP poll; Auburn rivalry next
Georgia climbed to No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 after a close win over Alabama and Texas’ loss to Oklahoma. The Bulldogs host Auburn on Saturday in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
ATLANTA — Georgia is back at No. 1 in the Associated Press college football poll after edging Alabama and benefiting from Texas’ loss to Oklahoma, according to rankings released Sunday, Oct. 11.
The Bulldogs moved up from No. 2. Alabama fell to No. 6, while Texas dropped to No. 7. Georgia’s next game is Saturday at home against Auburn in the teams’ annual Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry matchup.
Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State rounded out the poll’s top four. Indiana was fifth, followed by Alabama, Texas, BYU, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
The rest of the Top 25, in order, was Utah, UCLA, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Iowa, Oklahoma State, USC, Houston, Wake Forest, LSU, Boise State, SMU and Northwestern.
The AP poll is determined by a panel of 60 media members from around the country. Georgia was also No. 1 on the ballot of Zach Klein, a Channel 2 sports director who is among the voters. Klein ranked Ohio State second, Miami third, Texas fourth and Notre Dame fifth, differing from the poll’s order in several spots.
