Warfield guard Ulysses Davis killed in shooting after ‘Baddies’ event
Ulysses Tykee Davis, 47, was fatally shot early Saturday on Market Street after a reality-show concert at San Francisco’s Warfield. Police are investigating the shooting and whether the venue had the permits required for the event.
A security guard at San Francisco’s Warfield theater was shot and killed early Saturday, hours after a concert connected to the reality series “Baddies” ended at the venue, authorities said.
Police were called at about 1 a.m. Oct. 3 to the 900 block of Market Street, where they found a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and died, San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Jennifer Gamble said.
The medical examiner identified him as Ulysses Tykee Davis, 47, of Contra Costa County. Davis, known to friends as “Bear,” worked security at the Warfield, according to KTVU. His family told the station he was escorting a woman out of the theater when she allegedly shot him in the back. Davis’ wife and two of his six children were there, his brother-in-law, Terrance Cooper, told KTVU.
Police have not publicly confirmed that account or identified a suspect. Video posted online shows a woman being handcuffed outside the venue, but her connection to the shooting has not been established.
The concert, part of the filming of “Baddies USA,” had ended around midnight, according to event information. A livestream from the show appears to capture a fight onstage. At one point, reality star and series co-creator Natalie Nunn called for security, saying, “We not having fights on stage.”
Police are also examining whether the Warfield had the proper permits to host the concert, department spokesperson Robert Rueca told KTVU. The theater and Zeus Network, which produces the series, did not respond to requests for comment before publication.
The investigation leaves key questions unanswered, including who fired the shots and what led to the killing. Police have not responded to additional questions about the case.
