Outage near Golden Gate Park leaves 4,430 San Francisco customers without power
A Tuesday morning outage affected 4,430 PG&E customers in the Richmond District, including areas near Golden Gate Park. A separate outage in Bayview and Visitacion Valley was mostly restored after affecting about 2,700 customers.
A power outage reported at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday left 4,430 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers without electricity in San Francisco’s Richmond District, according to the utility’s outage tracker. PG&E estimated service would be restored by 1:15 p.m., though the cause was still under investigation as of late morning.
The outage covered a broad area near Golden Gate Park and along the Fulton Street and Lincoln Way corridors. The California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum are among the destinations in the area; it was not immediately clear whether the museums, the Conservatory of Flowers or nearby businesses had lost power or closed.
The Richmond District outage followed a separate interruption that began at 8:24 a.m. in Bayview and Visitacion Valley, initially affecting about 2,700 PG&E customers. Most of those customers had power back by about 10 a.m., PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian said. The cause of that outage was also being investigated.
The affected Bayview area includes shops, restaurants and community destinations along Third Street. The number of businesses affected and whether any had to close was not immediately known.
PG&E said crews were assessing the electrical system in the Richmond District, locating damaged sections and making repairs needed to restore service safely. The utility’s map also showed smaller outages elsewhere in San Francisco and around the Bay Area.
