Oakland police have not determined who killed Bryn Walker co-founders
Oakland police are investigating the deaths of fashion designers Bryan Walker and Michelle Min, who were found with fatal gunshot wounds at their Oakland Hills home on Friday, Oct. 2. Police have not said who fired the gun or classified the case as a murder-suicide. Officers responded to the home on Panoramic Way after a neighbor called at about 10:45 a.m. to report hearing gunshots. Assistant Chief Casey Johnson said officers found the couple dead and a gun at the scene. No one has been arrested, and police are not seeking other suspects, he said. “Everything is a possibility until we can fully investigate,” Johnson said. Police have not publicly identified a suspected shooter. Walker, 61, and Min, 63, co-founded Bryn Walker, a clothing label whose designs are sold in boutiques across the country. The couple’s deaths drew neighbors to leave flowers, cards and a clock at a growing memorial outside their home. Min’s brother, Paul Min, told the Los Angeles Times he believes Walker killed his sister and then himself. He also said Walker had made financial decisions that cost millions of dollars in the months before the shooting and had become deeply depressed. Paul Min said his sister was considering having Walker hospitalized for his safety and mental health, and that Walker learned of the plan on the day of the shooting. Those accounts have not been confirmed by police, who say the investigation remains open. A neighbor told local television that the deaths had prompted reflection on the difficulties people face in seeking mental health support. The police have not said whether mental health concerns are part of their investigation. Oakland police asked anyone with information, photos or video related to the case to contact homicide investigators at 510-238-3821 or cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
