Thunder lock in defensive standout Cason Wallace on long-term deal

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Monday that guard Cason Wallace has signed a multiyear contract extension, securing a key part of the team’s defense for the future.

The five-year deal is worth $139 million, according to ESPN. The Thunder did not disclose the financial terms, citing team policy.

Wallace, 22, started 58 of the 77 games he played in during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while recording 1.95 steals per game.

His defensive impact extended beyond the per-game average: Wallace finished first in the NBA with 150 total steals and 339 deflections last season. He was also named to the 2025-26 NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

A Dallas native, Wallace’s extension keeps a young, defense-first guard with Oklahoma City as the team builds on his growing role.
