Wisconsin playoff games may shift as Brewers’ World Series opens Friday

High school football teams can move Friday playoff games earlier or, by mutual agreement, play Saturday afternoon to avoid overlapping with the Brewers’ World Series. The WIAA says Thursday games are not an option, and another conflict could arise next week if the series reaches Game 6.

Wisconsin playoff games may shift as Brewers’ World Series opens Friday

MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin high school football teams are adjusting their playoff plans to give players, coaches and fans a chance to follow the Milwaukee Brewers’ World Series opener Friday, Oct. 23.

Schools may move games to an earlier time Friday or reschedule them for Saturday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., but only if both teams agree, Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Assistant Director Jake Beschta said. Thursday night is not an option.

The scheduling overlap comes as the WIAA playoffs begin and the Brewers face the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, a rare moment for Milwaukee baseball. The association has worked with several schools, including teams in the Milwaukee area, to find alternatives.

Teams located at least 120 miles apart are generally scheduled to play on Saturday unless both schools agree to a Friday game. The WIAA said schools could face a second conflict the following Friday if the series goes to Game 6.

The changes give teams flexibility at the start of the postseason while allowing students and local communities to take part in the Brewers’ run. Each matchup’s revised schedule depends on agreement between the schools involved.
