Franklin man ordered to stay away from Indian Community School for 10 years
A Franklin judge on Thursday issued a 10-year injunction barring Steven Trudell from possessing firearms and restricting his access to Indian Community School, following allegations that he displayed a handgun to a school employee working near the campus. The order requires Trudell, 62, to stay at least 500 feet from school property whenever employees, staff or students are visibly on the premises. According to a criminal complaint, a school employee called Franklin police at 3:53 p.m. Sept. 16 and reported that a man had pulled a gun on him. The employee was operating a Bobcat to clear brush and trees along the school property line near 10405 W. St. Martins Road. Trudell told investigators that his son had seen the employee cutting trees on their property through trail-camera footage, the complaint says. Trudell said he went to the area carrying a Glock and waved the employee down. He told police he was angry because someone was damaging his hunting land and said he displayed the gun to make clear he wanted the machinery stopped, according to the complaint. Police found a Glock 40 in Trudell’s truck. The gun had no round in its chamber, but its magazine contained nine rounds, investigators said. Trudell has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct. He is free on bail and is scheduled to return to court Oct. 29 for a pretrial conference. The charges are allegations, and the plea means the case remains unresolved.
