Delafield resident offers $1,000 reward after family’s yard and cars are vandalized
DELAFIELD, Wis. — A Delafield family is offering a $1,000 reward for information after finding its yard and vehicles covered in toilet paper and food, an incident the family says left them feeling targeted and unsettled in their community. Rachel Tegeder said the family discovered the mess Sept. 24. Toilet paper had been strung through the front and back yards and around vehicles. Nutella was smeared on the driveway and cars, and garbage had been left on the ground. More than a week later, some toilet paper remained in the trees, she said. Tegeder said one of her sons, who has high-functioning autism, is bullied regularly, and that his car appeared to have been vandalized the most. She believes the family may have been deliberately targeted, though she said they do not know who was responsible or why. “I felt like my family has a target on their back,” Tegeder said. Tegeder reported the incident to police and contacted her son’s school, asking for action. She said she is in touch with the school’s resource officer but has not heard back from the administration. Delafield police confirmed they received a call about the incident. The family is offering $1,000 to someone who can provide the names of everyone involved, Tegeder said. She said a tipster could remain anonymous. The family has not identified any suspects. Tegeder said she wants those responsible to face consequences and learn from what happened. She also said she would forgive them, but believes parents and community members should work together to help young people make responsible choices.
