Coral Springs ‘No Kings’ rally puts early voting at center of midterm push
Demonstrators in Coral Springs urged voters to cast ballots early as Florida voting sites prepared to open Monday. President Donald Trump dismissed the protests as paid, offering no evidence for the claim in his remarks.
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Residents and visitors gathered in Coral Springs on Saturday for a “No Kings” demonstration that emphasized voting ahead of the November midterm election, as Florida’s early-voting sites prepared to open Monday.
The protests, held in South Florida and elsewhere around the country, have generally criticized President Donald Trump’s policies and actions. This time, the message highlighted participation at the ballot box.
“This midterm election, our democracy is on the line,” voter Charmelle Gambile said. “That’s the most important thing.”
Early voting gives Floridians an opportunity to cast ballots before Election Day. The demonstrations came as organizers sought to direct public attention toward voter participation and access ahead of the midterms.
Trump responded to the protests at a rally Saturday, claiming demonstrators were paid. “They get paid to do that, they pay them $250 dollars,” he said, adding that the protests were “disgraceful.” He did not provide evidence for the claim in the remarks cited.
