Elijah Manley held on $40,000 bond after threat-related charges
The former Florida 20th District congressional candidate was booked Friday on two counts of making written threats, court records show. Prosecutors have asked Gov. Ron DeSantis to assign the case to another state attorney’s office because people identified as victims have ties to charitable drives organized by the Broward office.
Former congressional candidate Elijah Manley was booked into jail Friday on two counts of intimidation involving written threats to kill or injure, according to records. A judge set his bond at $40,000 and ordered him not to possess weapons, contact the people identified as victims or post on social media.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the allegations. The charges are accusations, and Manley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The Broward State Attorney’s Office has asked Gov. Ron DeSantis to assign the case to a different prosecutor’s office. Spokesperson Paula McMahon said the listed victims have taken part over the years in charitable drives organized by the Broward office, which will not handle the case.
Manley ran for Florida’s 20th Congressional District seat this year and finished third in the Democratic primary in August. U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz won the primary.
