A man in his 30s was taken to a hospital after a vehicle struck him and left the scene shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday at Northwest Seventh Avenue and 27th Street in Miami, police said.
Miami Fire Rescue transported the man, who was unresponsive but breathing. Police spokesman Michael Vega said he was expected to make a full recovery.
Surveillance video shows the man crossing the road with another person when a vehicle hit him, sending him into the air. The driver continued on, leaving him in the roadway, the video shows.
An officer was at a gas station across the street and saw the two pedestrians crossing mid-block, Vega said. The officer heard tires screech and a crash, then went to help the injured man.
Vega said investigators believe the pedestrians were crossing where there was traffic. He said the driver could still face a more serious charge for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries.
Police are searching for a dark-colored SUV or sedan that may have extensive damage to its front end and possibly its windshield. No other identifying details about the vehicle or driver were provided.
