A worker was fatally shot Thursday while trying to stop an attempted robbery at a business complex in southeast Las Vegas, police said.

Officers were called shortly before 11:40 a.m. to the 3400 block of East Flamingo Road, near Pecos Road. They found the male employee with an apparent gunshot wound inside the complex and tried to help him, but he died at the scene, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said three men entered the complex and attempted to rob a business. The employee lunged at one of the suspects, who shot him, investigators said. The three men fled and had not been found as of Thursday evening. Police have not released the worker’s identity.

The site houses multiple retail businesses, including a barbershop and a shoe seller. LVMPD’s Special Investigative Services unit is assisting homicide detectives as they work to clarify the businesses operating there.

Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is continuing.
