Clark County adds $715,557 a year for school crossing guards

Clark County commissioners voted Tuesday to add $715,557 a year to funding for school crossing guards serving elementary and middle schools in unincorporated parts of the county.

The increase brings the county’s contract with All City Management Services Inc. to more than $63.9 million. The county has not specified how many additional guards the funding will provide.

The decision comes amid ongoing concerns about traffic safety around schools. In late September, the Clark County School District said 64 students had been struck by vehicles while traveling to or from school so far this school year. Safety advocates have called for more crossing guards and other measures to reduce student injuries.
