Pahrump motorcyclist dies after SUV passes in no-passing zone, police say

A 43-year-old Pahrump man died after an SUV struck his motorcycle at an intersection in Pahrump on Oct. 10, Nevada State Police said. The SUV driver left the scene on foot and was later arrested by Nye County sheriff’s deputies.

The crash happened at about 8:57 a.m. near Barney Street and Bell Vista Avenue. Police said a southbound 2013 Honda Pilot was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass a 2023 Honda Navi motorcycle using the northbound lane in a no-passing zone.

The motorcycle rider was steering left to turn east onto Bell Vista Avenue when the SUV hit the motorcycle’s left side, causing it to overturn and eject the rider, according to police. The SUV stopped north of Barney Street.

The rider, identified by police as Timothy Michael Dorn, was taken by Mercy Air Ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died later that morning. Police said the SUV driver was not injured.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged the driver. Authorities have not provided details about the charges, and the investigation is ongoing.

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command said it had investigated 54 fatal crashes resulting in 60 deaths so far in 2026.
