UNLV Vegas Loop station still lacks opening date as F1 race nears

LAS VEGAS — A Vegas Loop station being built across from UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center has no announced opening date, leaving its availability for November’s Formula 1 race uncertain.

The Boring Company said it hopes to connect the UNLV stop with major resorts, including Westgate and Virgin Hotel. In September, a company representative told local television station FOX5 that the goal was to complete the new stops before the race. The company, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Clark County had not provided an update as of Oct. 21.

The station’s plans received approval from Nevada education leaders in June. The Loop currently has more than a dozen stations in Las Vegas, with 14 additional stops described as coming soon. Other proposed additions include stations in Chinatown and at AREA15, though no timelines have been provided for those projects.

Some riders interviewed about the system described it as quick and affordable. One conference attendee said a trip between the Las Vegas Convention Center and Resorts World cost just under $5 and took about four minutes. Another rider said the Loop could help ease traffic during F1, while acknowledging they had not attended the race in Las Vegas.

Whether the UNLV station will be operating in time for the event remains unresolved, and the broader expansion plans also lack public schedules.
