Boulder County coroner names two people killed in Eldorado Springs plane crash
A 43-year-old man and a 3-year-old girl who died in a plane crash near Eldorado Springs have been identified as Aaron Gingrich and Isabella Gingrich, according to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office did not specify how the two were related. The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus said Gingrich was an instructor in its Department of Emergency Medicine. In a statement, the university said his family had asked for privacy. Authorities began searching for a missing single-engine aircraft Sunday night after receiving reports of a crash in the Eldorado Springs area around 9:42 p.m. The plane had departed from Vance Brand Airport in Longmont and had not been reported at any local airport, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said. The initial overnight search, which used drones and a helicopter equipped with night-vision technology, did not locate the aircraft. Crews resumed the search Monday morning and found wreckage north of Eldorado State Park and south of the Flatirons. They reached the site around noon and found two people, both of whom were pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. No cause has been announced.
