Longmont residents seek financing to buy Mountain View mobile home community
Residents of Longmont’s Mountain View Mobile Home Community are working to buy the property after receiving notice last month that its owners plan to sell. Colorado law gives residents until mid-January to make an offer before the owners can sell to another buyer. The roughly 100 residents, by their estimate, are trying to determine whether they can secure enough financing to meet the owners’ $17 million asking price. They are seeking support from the City of Longmont, affordable-housing groups and potential lenders. Residents say a sale could bring rent increases they cannot afford and threaten a community where neighbors help one another with errands, medical appointments and daily tasks. Daniel Crowley said many residents are seniors living on limited Social Security income and already have little room in their budgets for higher rent. John Bolton said rising costs have eaten into his savings and left him worried about whether he can remain in the home where he expected to live long term. He also described the park’s network of neighbors as an important source of support. Longmont is discussing what assistance may be available. Housing and Community Investment Director Molly O’Donnell said the city is assessing residents’ financing needs and exploring options with Boulder County and organizations focused on affordable housing. The city supported a similar purchase effort by a local mobile home community in 2019 with a $300,000 no-interest loan. O’Donnell said officials are considering what resources could be possible for Mountain View, financially and otherwise; no commitment to provide funding was announced. Residents now face a short window to organize an offer and line up financing. If they miss the mid-January deadline, the property can be sold to another buyer. The owners had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
