Four tornadoes confirmed in Carolinas as storm damage surveys continue
The National Weather Service confirmed at least four tornadoes in North and South Carolina after storms swept through the region Oct. 10 and 11, with additional damage sites under review Monday. In North Carolina, an EF-1 tornado struck the East Arcadia area of Bladen County on Saturday. Winds were estimated to have reached 75 mph, and the damage path extended more than 1.5 miles. A separate tornado was confirmed Sunday near Chinquapin and Beulaville in Duplin County; the weather service said radar confirmed it. Two EF-1 tornadoes touched down near Kline in Barnwell County, South Carolina, on Saturday at about 4:30 p.m. The storms occurred one after the other. The first left a path nearly two miles long, while the second traveled just over 18 miles. Weather service surveyors were examining several other damage locations Monday to determine whether more tornadoes occurred. At least some of the sites were in the Raleigh area. The storms developed as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved through the Carolinas.
