Former Metro School aide charged after alleged threat against Charlotte campus
A former teacher assistant at Charlotte’s Metro School is accused of threatening to shoot up the campus and naming employees, according to a court affidavit. Ashley Monique Armstrong, 38, allegedly made the threat on Sept. 21, telling two people she would come to the school and “shoot up the school,” the affidavit says. At least one person she allegedly spoke to was a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools employee. Armstrong was arrested Oct. 9 and charged with one count of communicating a threat of mass violence against educational property. She was initially denied bond on that charge and was scheduled to appear in Mecklenburg County court on Oct. 12. Court records also show Armstrong was arrested Oct. 7 in connection with a separate alleged threat made Sept. 19. She was charged with communicating threats after allegedly threatening to kill a person and that person’s dog. A message to Metro School families confirmed Armstrong no longer works for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The school serves about 250 students, ages 3 to 22, all of whom have cognitive disabilities.
