Floodwaters close roads and recreation sites across Burke County
Heavy flooding after Hurricane Isaias left several roads and public access points in the Morganton area underwater Sunday. Five locations were closed by Sunday night, while a local resident said no one in her family had been hurt.
Flooding from Hurricane Isaias submerged roads and public access points around Morganton, prompting closures at five Burke County locations by Sunday night, Oct. 11.
Aerial video recorded Sunday afternoon showed water covering parts of the area after the storm moved through Saturday night. The closures included Antioch Road, Spainhour Road at Bost Road, Bethel Park, the Greenlee Ford access point and the John’s River Boat Ramp.
Cara Holley, who has family in the area, said the water had risen higher than she remembered from previous floods. She said she was relieved that no one had been injured.
The closures limited access to roads and recreational areas as the community dealt with the storm’s flooding. The available information did not specify when the locations would reopen.
