Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon will leave the department next month and take over as chief of police for Round Rock Independent School District on Nov. 9, the city said Oct. 6. Harmon joined Cedar Park’s police force in 1998 and advanced through its ranks. He served as a captain overseeing the support services and operations bureaus, became assistant chief in 2013 and was named police chief in May 2021. Harmon said he was proud of the department’s work and grateful for the relationships built with the community. In his new role, he said, he looks forward to protecting students and supporting educators and families while continuing to apply community-policing principles. City Manager Brenda Eivens praised Harmon’s leadership and said he had mentored officers who are prepared to lead the department. Cedar Park has not yet announced plans for the department’s next leadership; the city said it will consider next steps at a later date.
