Price Center loses Hays County grant as other senior programs receive funding
Hays County has denied the San Marcos Price Center’s FY 2027 grant request after more than a decade of support. The nonprofit says it was not given a reason, while the county declined to comment; several other senior-service organizations were funded.
Hays County will provide no grant funding to San Marcos’ Price Center in its fiscal year 2027 budget, ending more than a decade of county support for the community nonprofit.
The Price Center said it was not told why its annual request was denied. Hays County declined to comment on the decision or how grant awards were determined.
In a public statement, the center said it was “very disappointed” and surprised by the county’s decision. The nonprofit added that it would adapt and continue operating, but argued that its services to Hays County residents and thousands of visitors each year merited support.
Operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Senior Association, the Price Center offers a venue for community gatherings, performances, presentations, art displays, celebrations and private events. It also provides affordable classes and other activities intended to support healthy, active living. The center continues to receive funding from the City of San Marcos.
The county’s FY 2027 budget includes funding for other organizations serving older adults, including Hill Country Senior Center, Onion Creek Senior Center and Kyle Area Senior Zone. The Price Center has questioned why its request was denied while those organizations received county support.
The decision leaves the center without county grant funding for the coming fiscal year, though the available information does not specify the amount it had requested or how much the other organizations received.
