Monroe police seek gunman after shots fired at UPS driver in apartment complex
A UPS driver escaped injury after a man fired through an apartment door at the Terra Apartments in Monroe on Thursday, Oct. 8. Police say the suspect was gone by the time officers entered the unit after a hourslong standoff; no arrests have been reported.
MONROE, Wash. — Police are searching for a man suspected of firing through an apartment door at a UPS driver Thursday night at the Terra Apartments, then leaving before officers reached the unit, investigators said.
The driver was not hurt, according to UPS, and police reported no injuries. No arrests had been made as of Saturday, Oct. 10, while the investigation continued.
Officers surrounded the complex and tried for hours to get someone inside the apartment to come out. Neighbor Tyler Hayes said police used a loudspeaker and a heavily armored vehicle during the response, which lasted until about 2 a.m.
“They gave him a bunch of options,” Hayes said, describing officers asking the person to come out, move the blinds or signal that they were safe.
Police said no one was inside when officers eventually entered. Investigators believe the shooter left before police arrived. The area near the apartment showed bullet holes and evidence markers, according to the report.
Surveillance video showed a UPS truck arriving and a driver walking toward the building shortly before police cars arrived. Neighbors’ cellphone video showed the complex taped off as officers in tactical gear surrounded the area.
UPS confirmed the driver was an employee and said the company was thankful the worker was unharmed. It referred further questions to authorities.
Police have not publicly identified the suspect or said what may have led to the shooting.
