Four arrested in alleged Kia and Hyundai thefts at SeaTac light-rail station
Two 14-year-olds, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested Oct. 3 at Angle Lake Station after investigators linked them to vehicle thefts there over several weeks. Authorities say one of the vehicles was later used in a Seattle armed robbery.
Four people were arrested at Angle Lake Transit Station in SeaTac on Oct. 3 in connection with a series of alleged car thefts, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspects were two 14-year-olds, a 16-year-old and 18-year-old Payton Rose Cummings. Investigators allege the group was involved in several thefts at the station during the three weeks before the arrests. The vehicles were Kia or Hyundai models taken on Saturday nights between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., deputies said.
The two 14-year-olds were charged with attempted motor-vehicle theft and second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission. The 16-year-old faces charges of failing to obey police and possessing a stolen vehicle. Cummings was charged with second-degree taking a motor vehicle without permission. All four have been released from custody.
The sheriff’s office said one vehicle allegedly connected to the group was used in an armed robbery in Seattle. Court documents say Cummings told investigators she had taken part in at least five car thefts at Angle Lake Station and “too many to count” elsewhere. She was scheduled for arraignment Oct. 12 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
The arrests come as reported auto thefts have declined statewide. Washington recorded 17,499 auto thefts in 2025, a 38% drop from 2024, according to the state’s Auto Theft Prevention Authority. A 2024 change in state pursuit laws and arrests of people authorities have linked to earlier theft spikes have been cited as factors in the decline.
