Man dies after being struck on 15th Avenue Northwest in Ballard

A pedestrian was killed early Saturday after a car struck him on 15th Avenue Northwest in Ballard. Police say a witness reported that the man ran into the roadway from the sidewalk; investigators are continuing to examine the collision.

A man was killed early Saturday after being struck by a car on 15th Avenue Northwest in Ballard, Seattle police said. The driver called 911 at about 4 a.m. to report hitting a pedestrian while traveling north, according to the Seattle Police Department. Fire Department medics found the man dead in the northbound lanes just north of Northwest 51st Street. Police said a witness reported that the man had been walking north on the sidewalk and then ran into the road. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. A drug recognition expert evaluated the driver and did not suspect impairment, police said. Detectives in the department’s traffic collision investigation squad will conduct follow-up work. Police have not released the man’s identity.
