Warriors reportedly commit $110 million to Brandin Podziemski in five-year extension
Golden State has reportedly agreed to a five-year, $110 million extension with guard Brandin Podziemski, securing a productive young player as his role could expand. The deal includes a mutual option for its fifth year and a trade kicker.
The Golden State Warriors have reportedly agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract extension with guard Brandin Podziemski, keeping the 23-year-old with the team beyond his current deal.
The agreement includes a mutual option for the fifth year and a trade kicker. Podziemski, a 2023 first-round draft pick, is set to enter his fourth season with Golden State.
He averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game last season, and led the Warriors in total rebounds. He has made 37.5% of his 3-point attempts over his career.
Podziemski has been especially effective alongside high-volume scorers such as Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, helping connect lineups. His next challenge may be taking on more playmaking responsibility: when Curry and Butler were out with injuries during the second half of last season, Podziemski had an uneven stretch in his first extended run as a lead playmaker.
Since entering the NBA, Podziemski has recorded 13.4 win shares, the 27th-highest total among players age 25 or younger. Golden State has outscored opponents by 538 points with him on the court. His ability to grow into a larger role will help determine whether the extension proves to be a bargain or a deal in line with the market.
