San Pablo man arrested after passenger is wounded in I-80 shooting near Bay Bridge
CHP says a Sept. 26 freeway shooting that wounded a passenger in the leg followed an altercation in San Francisco. A 19-year-old San Pablo man was arrested, and a 15-year-old Richmond boy was identified as a second suspect, authorities said.
A 19-year-old San Pablo man was arrested in connection with a Sept. 26 shooting on Interstate 80 near the Bay Bridge that left a passenger with a gunshot wound to the leg, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
CHP investigators said the shooting appeared to be targeted and retaliatory, following a physical altercation in San Francisco. The suspects allegedly followed the victims onto eastbound I-80, west of the Bay Bridge toll plaza, and fired at their vehicle.
The CHP Golden Gate Division identified the suspects as Olman Santiago Martinezaguilar, 19, of San Pablo, and a 15-year-old boy from Richmond. Authorities did not release the younger suspect’s name. He was already in custody on an unrelated matter, CHP said.
At about 6:15 a.m. Oct. 8, CHP’s Golden Gate Division Warrant Service Team served search and arrest warrants at homes in Richmond and San Pablo. Officers arrested Martinezaguilar at his residence and recovered a firearm they believe is associated with him, according to CHP.
Martinezaguilar was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges related to attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle, along with other offenses. The allegations have not been proven in court.
“ This arrest reflects our investigators’ dedication to identifying those responsible and keeping Californians safe,” CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos said in a statement, describing the shooting as violence that endangered the public.
