PG&E Outage Hits San Francisco Neighborhoods; 2,950 Customers Still Affected at Midday
A power outage that began around 11:38 a.m. Monday affected parts of the Castro, Mission, Haight-Ashbury, Duboce Triangle and Corona Heights. PG&E said it restored power to more than half of the affected customers quickly, but 2,950 remained without service at 12:40 p.m.
An unplanned power outage disrupted service across parts of San Francisco on Monday, Oct. 12, with PG&E reporting 2,950 customers still affected at 12:40 p.m.
The outage began at about 11:38 a.m. and initially affected roughly 6,600 PG&E customers, according to outage reports. Areas impacted included Corona Heights, Haight-Ashbury, Duboce Triangle, the Castro and the Mission District. PG&E said it restored power to more than half of the affected customers soon after the outage began by switching them to an unaffected distribution line.
By midday, the remaining outages were concentrated around Corona Heights and Upper Market, several blocks of the Castro near Market Street, parts of Guerrero Street and the 16th Street corridor. PG&E said a field worker was at the scene assessing the problem and determining what repairs were needed. The cause had not been identified.
The outage affected some of the same neighborhoods that experienced a lengthy interruption in early July, including parts of the Castro near Market, Noe and Sanchez streets. That outage took days to repair and affected residents and businesses.
San Francisco has also experienced several major power disruptions over the past year. A December 2025 outage left about 65,000 PG&E customers without electricity, and outages continued in some neighborhoods into the new year. In March, around 7,000 customers lost power during a heat wave.
