CHP Arrests San Pablo Man in Bay Bridge Shooting Investigation
A 19-year-old San Pablo man was arrested Oct. 8 in connection with a shooting on the Bay Bridge that injured a passenger in September, the California Highway Patrol said. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle. CHP investigators identified Olman Santiago Martinez Aguilar and a 15-year-old boy from Richmond as suspects in the Sept. 26 shooting. Officers served arrest and search warrants at homes in San Pablo and Richmond at about 6:15 a.m., recovering a firearm at Martinez Aguilar’s residence that investigators believe is connected to the case, according to CHP. The teenager was already in custody on an unrelated matter. The shooting happened around 4:06 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80, just west of the Bay Bridge toll plaza. A passenger reported being shot in the leg and was taking himself to a local hospital for treatment. CHP investigators believe the shooting was retaliatory and followed a physical altercation in San Francisco. They allege the suspects pursued the victims onto the freeway before firing at their vehicle. The allegations have not been proven in court. Officers shut down all eastbound lanes for about an hour after the shooting, and later closed them for about 30 minutes during a search, according to reports at the time. CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos said the arrest reflected investigators’ efforts to identify those responsible and protect the public.
