Horizon Air flight attendants held a systemwide day of picketing Oct. 14, pressing for better wages, benefits and compensation in a contract that remains under negotiation. Horizon Air cabin crew stage nationwide picketing as contract talks continue
Horizon Air flight attendants took part in a systemwide picketing action Wednesday, Oct. 14, calling on the airline to make a new contract offer that improves wages, benefits and compensation. The demonstration began at 10 a.m., and the union described the action as a way to increase pressure on management while negotiations continue. The Association of Flight Attendants said crew members want an economic proposal that recognizes their work keeping passengers safe. The union called for a living-wage contract and said workers would continue organizing until management presents an offer it considers adequate. Horizon Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alaska Airlines Group, said it agrees that its flight attendants need a new contract and remains optimistic about bargaining. The company said union and airline leaders met in early October and are continuing negotiations with a mediator. They have reached tentative agreements on 12 contract articles, covering several topics where both sides found common ground, according to the airline. The airline said it respects flight attendants’ right to engage in legally protected activities such as informational picketing and does not anticipate effects on operations. The negotiations between Horizon and the union remain ongoing.
