Tigard residents hospitalized after overnight house fire; dog and birds die
Two of five residents were hospitalized after a fire broke out at a Tigard home before 2 a.m. Wednesday. A dog that alerted the household and the family’s birds died; another dog escaped.
Two people were hospitalized and several family pets died after a fire tore through a Tigard home early Wednesday, Oct. 14, fire officials said.
The fire started before 2 a.m. at a home on Southwest Sunrise Lane. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from multiple sides of the house, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.
Two of the five residents were hurt while escaping. One was injured jumping from a balcony, and the other suffered burns. Both were taken to a hospital. The other three residents got out without injuries.
A family dog alerted the residents to the fire but died in the blaze along with the household’s birds, officials said. A second dog escaped safely.
Firefighters brought the fire under control despite having only one nearby hydrant, the fire department said. Twenty-five fire vehicles responded over the course of the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
