Two men killed in early-morning shooting near 16th and McKinley in Phoenix
Phoenix police are searching for a suspect after two men were found shot dead near 16th and McKinley streets early Tuesday. Investigators closed part of 16th Street while they process the scene and seek witnesses; police say there is no known threat to the public.
Two men were shot and killed early Tuesday near 16th and McKinley streets in central Phoenix, and police were searching for a suspect who they believe left the scene.
Multiple callers reported gunfire shortly before 5 a.m., Phoenix police Sgt. John Buchanan said. Officers found both men dead at the scene, south of Interstate 10. Investigators initially considered whether there might be a third victim, but Buchanan said none was found.
Police said there was no known threat to the public. A police helicopter circled the Garfield neighborhood as officers searched for the suspect.
Sixteenth Street was closed between Roosevelt and Washington streets as investigators documented the scene, looked for surveillance video and canvassed for witnesses. The closure was expected to last until early afternoon Tuesday.
