Downtown Phoenix stabbing sends man to hospital; suspect taken into custody
A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after a stabbing early Tuesday near Central Avenue and Monroe Street in downtown Phoenix, police said. Officers took a suspect into custody, but authorities had not publicly identified the person as of Tuesday morning. Phoenix police were called to the scene just after 2 a.m. Investigators said the man had been stabbed at least once and was taken to a hospital. Witnesses at Cornish Pasty told local television reporters that the injured man ran to the restaurant and collapsed. People nearby saw he was hurt and called 911. Monroe Street was closed between Central Avenue and First Avenue as police investigated. Valley Metro said police activity near the scene was delaying northbound and southbound B Line trains by as much as 15 minutes. Drivers and residents were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Police had not released details about what led to the stabbing. The investigation was continuing Tuesday.
