Phoenix adds $2 PHXLink shuttles to connect riders with transit

Phoenix’s new on-demand PHXLink service began Monday, offering shared rides for $2 to transit hubs and other destinations in three city zones. The three-year pilot will also collect data to help guide future Valley Metro expansion.

Phoenix adds $2 PHXLink shuttles to connect riders with transit

Phoenix launched PHXLink on Monday, Oct. 26, a shared, on-demand ride service that costs $2 per trip and is designed to connect residents with public transit and other local destinations.

Riders can book through the PHXLink mobile app or by calling 623-281-3479. The service operates in north, south and west zones; an interactive map and details about the service areas are available at Phoenix.gov/link.

Passengers choose a destination and number of riders, then receive a pickup window. Vehicles, typically vans, pick up passengers at nearby designated “virtual stops.” Drivers wait up to two minutes at pickup points, according to the city.

PHXLink can take riders to city transit centers, RAPID commuter routes, light rail stations and other local destinations. Phoenix Public Transit Director Jesús Sapien said the service will help the city test ways to connect residents with the existing transit network and identify where more connections may be needed.

The three-year pilot is also intended to produce data to inform Valley Metro’s future expansion plans. The service adds a flexible option for reaching transit, though its availability is limited to the listed zones.

Other Valley Metro changes also took effect Monday. Eligible riders received reduced fares on RAPID and Express routes, and weekday RAPID service on the Interstate 10 West and Interstate 17 corridors expanded to run from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Riders can check current routes and schedules through Valley Metro’s website or app.
