Page Unified delays Homecoming dance after reported gun threats at football game
Page High School postponed its Saturday Homecoming dance after reports of a person threatening others with a gun in the football field parking lot Friday night. Police say there is no known threat to the community as the investigation continues.
Page High School’s Homecoming dance was postponed Saturday after reports of gun threats in the school’s football field parking lot during Friday night’s game, the Page Unified School District said.
First responders were called shortly before 9:30 p.m. Friday as the Page Sand Devils’ Homecoming game against the Monument Valley Mustangs was ending. Officers and deputies from the Page Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and Navajo Police Department responded, and the stadium was cleared. Page police used a drone to search for a suspect.
Authorities have not said whether the suspect was located or anyone was arrested. Police said there is no known threat to the community, and the case remains under investigation.
The district announced the dance’s postponement Saturday morning, saying it wanted the investigation and a review of the incident to proceed before holding the event. The district acknowledged students could be disappointed but said student and community safety was its priority.
No new date has been announced. The district said it would share further information, including a possible rescheduled date, when available. School counselors are expected to be available Monday morning for students affected by the incident.
