Man dies after Phoenix police shooting near Central Avenue and Roeser Road

A man died after Phoenix officers shot him at a south Phoenix apartment complex Saturday, police said. The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division will investigate.

A man died Saturday after Phoenix police officers shot him at an apartment complex near Central Avenue and Roeser Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Officers were called to the complex around 12:45 p.m. after a report of a man carrying a firearm and a knife, police said. When officers arrived, the man was leaving an apartment while still holding the weapons. Police said officers ordered him to put the weapons down and deployed PepperBall less-lethal munitions after he did not comply. The man later raised his firearm toward officers, according to the department, and officers fired. Officers provided medical aid before Phoenix Fire Department crews took the man to a hospital, where he died. No officers were injured. The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is leading the investigation. Police have not released the man’s identity or additional details about the shooting.
