Phoenix Pride moves 45th festival to Arizona Center, adds free-access option
Phoenix Pride’s 45th festival and parade will take place Oct. 10-11 at downtown’s Arizona Center, with a Saturday night concert followed by Sunday’s parade and all-day festival. The Saturday concert, headlined by Madison Rose, is scheduled to open its gates at 6 p.m., with the show beginning at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the parade starts at 10 a.m., traveling south on Third Street from Portland and Taylor streets toward the Arizona Center. The festival runs from noon to 10 p.m., ending with a concert by Jordy at 8:45 p.m. The Arizona Center, near Van Buren and Fillmore streets, is the event’s new venue after previous festivals were held at Steele Indian Park. Phoenix Pride Executive Director Mike Fornelli said the organization had spent the past year reviewing community feedback and reconsidering the event’s format. “This is a different kind of year for Phoenix Pride, and you’re going to see a different kind of parade and festival, as a result,” Fornelli said in a statement. Organizers describe the festival as a hybrid event, with free and open access as well as ticketed premium spaces. Admission options range from free to $81.33. Planned features include food vendors, a food court, a senior cooling area, spaces for children, a dance pavilion and a beverage garden. The new setup could make parts of the celebration accessible to more people while retaining paid areas. Tickets are available online through Phoenix Pride’s event page.
