OU places Sigma Nu on disciplinary probation over coerced labor practices

The University of Oklahoma has found its Sigma Nu fraternity chapter responsible for hazing and placed it on disciplinary probation, following an investigation into a practice the university described as coerced domestic labor for active members.

University officials said the chapter ran a structured system known as “Basics,” involving personal servitude and domestic work. The university received a report about the conduct on Sept. 21, began its conduct process the following day and resolved the case Oct. 14, officials said.

The sanctions require Sigma Nu to hold a hazing education workshop, revise its new-member education plan and conduct a meeting to transition chapter officers. The university did not provide further details about the reported conduct or identify individuals involved in the information provided about the case.
