Piedmont water-line leak shuts four schools and leaves most residents without service
A leak on Stout Drive led city crews to isolate Piedmont’s main water distribution line Thursday morning, leaving most of the city without water. Four schools canceled classes, and students already on buses were sent home.
PIEDMONT, Okla. — Four Piedmont schools canceled classes Thursday after a water-line leak left most of the city without service, city and school officials said.
Public works crews found the leak in the 1400 block of Stout Drive. By 6 a.m., crews had been unable to locate a valve to isolate the leak, so they shut off the main distribution line, according to the city.
Piedmont Public Schools canceled classes for students at Piedmont Elementary, Piedmont Intermediate, Middle School of Piedmont and Piedmont High School. Students who were already on buses were being returned home.
The outage came as heavy rain continued across Oklahoma. Officials did not say when water service would be restored.
