Kingfisher flooding shuts Broadway, affects Highway 81 travel
Rising water from Kingfisher Creek has made parts of town impassable and closed several roads as rain continued Thursday morning. Officials provided alternate routes around flooding on Highway 81 and warned drivers to stay out of high water.
KINGFISHER, Okla. — Flooding from Kingfisher Creek and continued rain closed roads and disrupted travel in Kingfisher on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, with police warning that the north end of town was impassable because of high water.
Broadway was closed between Eighth and 13th streets. Water also covered parts of Sheridan and Don Blanding, a small bridge on Elks Road, and North Broadway between Seventh and 13th streets. Main Street was underwater from Robberts Street to Harvey Street and east to Fourth Street, according to the Kingfisher Police Department.
Kingfisher County Emergency Management said flooding was also affecting Highway 81. Officials outlined two detours: one using Highway 33 east to North 2920 Road and East 760 Road, then west to Highway 81; another using Airport Road west from Highway 81 to North 2790 Road, then south to Highway 33 and onward to North 2830 Road and Starlight. The bridge at 780 Road and 2860 Road was also closed.
Water levels had begun to fall at two creeks. Uncle John’s Creek had dropped 2 feet, 1 inch since midnight, while Kingfisher Creek had fallen 3 feet, 3 inches, emergency management officials said. Despite the declines, police and emergency officials urged residents not to drive through flooded roads.
The closures affect local streets as well as a major highway route, making officials’ detour guidance important for people traveling through the area. Drivers should follow posted closures and avoid any roadway covered by water.
