Piedmont water outage forces four schools to close as crews search for leak

Four Piedmont schools closed Thursday, Oct. 15, after a city water outage left much of the Oklahoma community without service. Students who had already boarded buses were to be returned home, district officials told families Thursday morning.
The closures affected Piedmont Elementary, Piedmont Intermediate, Middle School of Piedmont and Piedmont High School.
City crews were working to isolate a water leak on Stout Drive near Piedmont Road. Officials said crews had not found a valve that would allow them to shut off the leaking section. The city’s main distribution system had been isolated, leaving much of Piedmont without water.
A gas line is near the leak, and crews were proceeding cautiously, the city said. No reopening time or estimate for restoring water was provided in the available update.
